하다 irregular – Korean irregular verbs #8
We'll learn 하다 irregular today. Actually, the official name of 하다 irregular is "여" irregular, because the ending 아/어 is changed to 여. However, this rule only happens with the verbs that end with 하다. So, I think 하다 irregular is easier to remember.
When 하다 verbs are conjugated with 아/어 endings like 아/어도, 아/어서, 았/었. 아/어 is conjugated to 여. So, its conjugated form is 하여도, 하여서, 하였다. These conjugated forms have shortened forms like 해도, 해서, 했다. These shortened forms are more frequently used than original forms.
Example verbs: all verbs that end with 하다 like 하다(do), 공부하다(study), 생각하다(think), 원하다(want), 화장하다(wear makeup), 도착하다(arrive), 깨끗하다(clean), 행복하다(happy), 피곤하다(tired), 조용하다(quiet)
