We all love freedom, but sometimes others make us move on their wills and vice versa.

Today's expression 좌지우지 is used when you control others as you wish or others make you do something on their wills.

The basic meaning of 좌지우지 is "to make them move left and right." You can think of an army. When the commander tell his men to move left or right, they move. So, when you 좌지우지 someone, you make him or her do the things as you wish.

시험 공부를 얼마나 했는가보다는 어떻게 했느냐가 시험 점수를 좌지우지하는 것 같다.
