We always want our skills to improve. In some cases, we can find that out ourselves, in other cases, others tell us about that. As you learn Korean, you might have some experience about the improvement of your Korean skills.

If your skills improve daily and monthly or continually, it is called "일취월장" in Korean.

This expression came from the old poetry book in China called Classic of Poetry, or 시경 in Korean. The second king of Zhou Dynasty wrote a poem like this:

I am wretched and not at all clever.
My study will improve daily and monthly to the light, however.
So do your best to help me see your good deeds ever and ever.

As you can see in his poem, we can feel his modesty and willingness to learn. As a result, he really became a good king and it is said that he opened the golden age of Zhou Dynasty.

고생 많이 했다. 실력이 일취월장한 것이 보이는구나.
You did a great job. I can see that your skills improved significantly.

지난 겨울 방학 때 한국어를 꾸준히 공부했더니 한국인과 대화하는데 문제가 별로 없었다. 이 정도면 내 한국어 실력도 일취월장했다고 할 수 있겠다.
I studied Korean continuously in last winter vacation, so I didn't have any problem when I was talking with a Korean. I can say that my Korean got better a lot.

지난 번에 만났을 때는 완전 못했는데, 오늘은 엄청 잘하네. 완전 일취월장했어.
When I met you last time, you were really bad at it, but you do so well today. Your skills are getting better.
