이, 히 Passive Examples – Korean Causative and Passive Forms #9
Today, we'll learn the suffix examples of 이, 히 in passive forms.
이: 놓이다(놓다, put), 보이다(보다, look), 묶이다(묶다, tie), 섞이다(섞다, mix), 쌓이다(쌓다, stack), 쓰이다(쓰다, use, write), 파이다(파다, dig)
히: 닫히다(닫다, close), 먹히다(먹다, eat), 묻히다(묻다, bury, hide), 박히다(박다, bump, crash), 밟히다(밟다, stomp), 얹히다(얹다, put on), 잡히다(잡다, catch)
There is a kind of pattern like:
- 이 suffix is added after the verbs whose stem ends with a vowel like 보다, 파다, or with the ending sound, ㄱ, ㅎ like 놓다, 묶다, etc.
- 히 suffix is added after the verbs whose stem ends with ㄱ, ㄷ, ㅂ, ㅈ, ㅊ.
These are only general rules. I wrote this to help you find them faster. The only method is to find passive form is to ask your Korean friends or to find dictionary.
