If you only hear the podcast, you might be confused if I say the difference between 넘어 and 너머. You might be confused now, the first one starts with the character, 넘 and the second one does with 너.

너머

Let's start with 너, not 넘. 너머 is used to describe the place which is behind something big such as the valley behind the mountain or hill(산 너머, 언덕 너머), or over the street(거리 너머).

어디로 가야 그녀를 만날 수 있느냐는 질문에 마을 촌장은 저 산 너머를 가리켰다.
The elder of the village indicated over the mountain when he asked where he can meet her.

네가 지르는 소리가 거리 너머 이 건물까지 들린다.
I can hear the shout you did here in this building which is across the street.

산 너머 골짜기를 지나 절벽 중간에 가면 모든 병을 낫게 할 수 있는 약초가 있다는 전설이 있어.
It is said that there is a legendary herb that can cure every disease if you go to the mountain and walk through the valley and arrive the middle of the cliff.

넘어

Then, let's see 넘. 넘어 is the conjugation of the verb, 넘다. As it came from the verb, it emphasizes the action of moving over or passing over while 너머 with 너 does the location of a place.

블로그 하루 방문객이 3000명을 넘어 이벤트를 개최하기로 했다.
As the daily visitor of my blog went over 3000, so I decided to do an event.

이스라엘의 명절인 유월절에서 유월의 의미는 넘어 간다는 뜻이다.
The meaning of 유월 in 유월절, the holy day of Israel, is to pass over.
